The Roper Foundation For A Lifetime Of Sober Living
At Vertava Health it is important to us that our clients have the right team of experts at their disposal to recover addiction and transition into their new lives. We look at our clients as students of life who need education about the disease of addiction, lessons on coping, life skills training, coaching, teachings on faith, love and even courses on how to have fun again – without drugs and alcohol. The campuses and treatment programs are designed specifically to address drug and alcohol addiction. Our expert staff recognizes that each individual is on his or her own path and will need different treatment based on where they are on that path. For this reason, a detailed clinical assessment is conducted as the very first step so that the individual is placed in the right level of treatment and regularly evaluated to ensure that they are thriving. While our substance use treatment programs are tailored specifically to each client’s needs, and their experiences vary, here is a snapshot of what you can expect to see happening on any given day on one of our campuses.
A typical day for our clients begins in the morning where they wake up in their dorm-style rooms and get out of their memory foam mattress beds around 7:00 a.m. They are provided personal time to wake up, get showered and begin their day. A healthy hot breakfast is served every day at 7:30, followed by a devotion meditation time. These morning devotions are peaceful prayers asking for forgiveness, understanding and a positive start to the day.
Each client is required to participate in chores. At our campuses we stress the importance of showing that we care about ourselves and where we are. Each person is given specific duties each day to complete. Things like cleaning up their personal areas, sweeping and vacuuming the common areas, meal clean up, laundry, taking out the trash and making beds are expected to be done during this time, and there are various other times in the day where these responsibilities are managed. We teach that a clean home is a happy home, and we feel that this activity is rewarding as a job well done and is good practice for when a client leaves treatment.
Addiction recovery classes begin around 9:00 a.m. and last until lunchtime at 12:30. Classes cover a wide range of topics including:

Faith Based Biblical Recovery Classes Can Include:
The Gears – a lecture series developed by Pastor and Vertava Health President Erik Hines. The Gears’ treatment methodology is based on the concept that in order to have true happiness in life, human beings must have all of their needs (represented as gears) met.
When one or more of these basic human needs is not being met, the person will often turn elsewhere to satisfy those needs. Drugs and alcohol often provide an empty gratification with no long term contentment. Addiction takes over as the person continues to use in an attempt to find fulfillment. The Gears treatment methodology implies simply that a strong trust, belief in and deep love of God can fulfill the unmet needs without needing the crutch of drugs and alcohol.
Students of the Christian based drug rehab program will participate in classes that address each unmet need. These classes guide the client through the discovery process of figuring out what needs weren’t and aren’t being met as well as teaching how God can meet those needs to help the individual grow in Christ and treat the addiction.
Christian Classes Include:
Basic Human Need # 1: Security
Basic Human Need # 2: Acceptance
Basic Human Need # 3: Appreciation
Basic Human Need # 4: Value
Basic Human Need # 5: Self-Worth
Basic Human Need # 6: Affection
Basic Human Need # 7: Love
Basic Human Need # 8: Purpose
Basic Human Need # 9: Adventure
In the afternoons clients can enjoy taking some free time and then participating in classes on grief and trauma, codependency and boundaries, career counseling, basic human needs, nutrition, personal hygiene and disease prevention.
This is also when group therapy and individual addiction counseling is held. These sessions help clients to realize that they are not alone in their struggles, give them the opportunity to empathize with others like them, provide freedom to speak of trauma and experiences in a safe secure environment, and offer opportunities to practice coping strategies and new behaviors in a guided system.
Dinner time includes a hot, healthy meal and is a time to wind down at the end of the day. Therapy doesn’t end at dinner, however. Clients have access to a variety of weights and cardio equipment – exercise is considered a part of daily therapy as they continue to heal their minds and bodies. And while there isn’t much time for watching television – our campuses are equipped with TVs for entertainment and watching football. After dinner clients clean up and maintain the campus spaces as they did that morning. Evening classes begin around 7:00 p.m. and end around 10 – 10:30 p.m. with meditation and devotional before lights are out.
Weekends provide a chance for education, meditation and also some fun. Clients participate in recreational activities like movies, white water rafting, going to church, barbeques, camping, hiking and more. We believe strongly in teaching our clients how to have fun without drugs and alcohol. These extracurricular activities help retrain the brain to produce the ‘feel good’ chemicals, and clients learn how life itself is an adventure to be enjoyed.
An Addict No More.
Vertava Health is more than just a ‘treatment facility.’ We provide a safe place to let go of addiction to drugs and alcohol and learn how to live again with purpose and fulfillment. Our campuses are designed to teach addicts how to positively restore their lives – not that they will be an addict forever.
90% of the treatment centers in American still tell clients this distressing and defeating message. This is one of the main problems with traditional drug rehab in the United States today. If you are constantly told you will never be free – you will never be free. If you’re constantly told you are bad – will you ever feel good again? This message of “always an addict,” is both irresponsible and false. Millions are living proof that drug and alcohol addiction is a curable disease.
Our campuses are designed around that fact and we hold ourselves accountable to ensure the success of each and every individual that comes through our doors for drug and alcohol addiction treatment.

One year ago, my son took a huge step in the right direction as I dropped him off at Vertava Health. That decision will change his life and impact our family forever. We are eternally grateful to Vertava Health for helping turn our son around and get him started in a new life! We love our new family at ACTN!
