Care for Mental Health & Substance Use Conditions

Outpatient treatment is different from inpatient treatment because patients do not live on-site at a treatment center. Instead, with an outpatient program (OP), patients meet at a treatment facility at scheduled times during the week for therapy and return home after.

A less intensive level of care than many other treatment programs, outpatient care is a good option for people with milder conditions and wanting more flexibility in treatment.

Some of the benefits of outpatient treatment include:

  • Flexible treatment scheduling
  • Less disruption to everyday life
  • Ability to maintain employment or continue school
  • Lower time commitment
  • More freedom
  • Continued support and guidance
  • Help when faced with real-world hurdles and triggers

Outpatient Programs at Vertava Health

At Vertava Health, we offer separate outpatient programs for mental health and substance use conditions. Patients can receive outpatient care for everything from depression to an opioid use disorder and will follow a personalized treatment plan to fit their changing needs. Our outpatient program can also be accessed through our virtual care platform for those wanting to get care online or who do not live near one of our outpatient treatment centers.

Our outpatient program (OP) includes one individual therapy session a week with a licensed therapist as well one group therapy session a week with people struggling with similar conditions when appropriate. This level of care is one step lower than our intensive outpatient program that involves more therapy sessions a week and a greater time commitment. There are also other add-on services available when needed.

Some of our outpatient services include:

  • Individual therapy
  • peer support groups
  • family therapy
  • case management services
  • medication management
  • medication-assisted treatment

Outpatient Mental Health Treatment

Many people who struggle with their mental health never get help, but our outpatient therapy programs are used to support people with a variety of mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD.

Our mental health outpatient programs focus on evidence-based programming including person-centered therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, and more. Through these various treatment modalities and under the direction of licensed therapists and counselors, patients will work on not only learning to manage their symptoms but also on improving their overall well-being. When appropriate, patients may also meet in support groups with other patients who are struggling with similar conditions. These group sessions create a community of support and connection.

Other outpatient mental health services may include family therapy or medication management depending on the needs and desires of the patient. With outpatient mental health clinics across the country as well as virtual care options, more people struggling with their mental health are able to find the care they need.

Outpatient Addiction Treatment

Outpatient rehab can act as an alternative to residential services as well as a step-down treatment program in the recovery journey.

While rehab centers provide a controlled environment for addiction recovery, some patients who already have a supportive home environment may not need this level of intense care. Instead, addiction outpatient programs allow them to stay connected to loved ones and their everyday lives while still receiving professional care.

Those who have recently completed a higher level of treatment can also benefit from an outpatient SUD program as it provides guidance and support during this transitional period. Early recovery is filled with addiction triggers and cravings, but outpatient treatment ensures that people have somewhere to turn and helps to reduce the risk of relapse.

During their outpatient addiction treatment program, patients may work with therapists, counselors, and case managers as they participate in various proven treatment modalities. These treatment techniques will help them better understand the root causes of their addiction as well as how to cope with triggers. Group therapy sessions will also help patients grow their support system in the recovery community and remind them that they are not alone.

Our outpatient programs follow American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) guidelines and require patients to check-in for treatment as well as report any medications they use during the program for more accountability. Additional services like family therapy and medication-assisted treatment are also available when needed.
