TRICARE Coverage for Addiction Treatment

Live Out Your Best Future

Take the first step toward addiction treatment by contacting us today.

Trying to locate a list of insurance plans accepted by rehab centers can be overwhelming. It could delay the delivery of life-saving treatment for a substance or alcohol use disorder. TRICARE coverage for drug rehab is provided by the U.S. government and offered to veterans, military retirees, active service members, and their families.

Call Vertava Health today at 844.470.0410 for more information about paying for treatment with TRICARE.

How Does TRICARE Coverage for Drug Rehab Work?

TRICARE is an insurance option available only to active military, veterans, and military family members. It can be used to cover alcohol and substance use disorder treatment and many other mental health treatment programs.

This insurance meets the requirements set out by the Affordable Care Act. The exact coverage provided depends on the individual’s specific insurance plan, the services they need, and other factors.

TRICARE coverage for addiction treatment typically includes the following services:

  • Detox
  • Medication-assisted treatment
  • Inpatient programs
  • Residential programs
  • Partial hospitalization programs
  • Outpatient programs

Addiction doesn’t only affect the individual. Involving family members in the process of recovery is highly beneficial both for the family and the individual receiving treatment. Some services for family members may also be covered by TRICARE insurance.

What Type of TRICARE Plan Do You Have?

Like most major insurance companies, TRICARE offers a variety of different plans to meet different levels of need. All TRICARE plans should cover at least a portion of rehab services. Some of the plan options include:

  • TRICARE Prime is available to military personnel and families who are not eligible for Medicare
  • TRICARE Select is a preferred provider network plan that does not require a primary care manager
  • TRICARE for Life maintains automatic enrollment for those who have Medicare Part A and B
  • TRICARE Reserve Select is offered worldwide to Selected Reserve members and their families
  • TRICARE Retired Reserve is available only to Select Reserve members

TRICARE supplemental insurance is an additional insurance plan that reimburses some or all of the out-of-pocket costs you may owe to a non-VA rehab center for services received. TRICARE policies are available both through military and private insurance companies.

To benefit from the highest level of coverage, your rehab treatment must be deemed medically necessary by a medical professional who is in-network with TRICARE. Once treatment is approved, the cost of your rehab services will be billed to TRICARE. You may have some out-of-pocket costs, depending on your plan.

How to Use TRICARE Coverage for Drug Rehab

If you have not already applied for TRICARE insurance, doing so is easy. You are eligible for TRICARE if you are an active or retired service member, a National Guard or Reserve member, or the spouse or child of either. Former military spouses and survivors of deceased military members may also be eligible.

To apply, check your eligibility and apply at the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System. Once your coverage is activated, you can simply provide your insurance information when you talk to one of the admissions counselors. Vertava Health is in-network with TRICARE and other VA insurance plans.

If you prefer to verify coverage on your own, fill out the insurance verification form on our website to determine your amount of coverage.
