All Savers is a line of insurance products offered by UnitedHealthcare. All Savers includes traditional insurance products and the All Savers Alternate Funding self-funded medical plan for small employers. Self-funded plans mean that the employer pays into the plan for future payments on medical claims.

The All Savers Alternate Funding plan has a stop-loss insurance policy built in. If a member must make claims that are above the amount the business pays in, the stop-loss insurance policy will cover the costs. Part of the premium the business owner pays goes toward third-party administration costs.

In the event that the business pays in more than is spent on medical care in the course of a year, they have the chance to get some money back. If the business’s employees spend more on medical care than was paid in, the stop-loss policy kicks in. The benefit of this structure is lower premium costs and taxes for the business owner.

All Savers Alternate Funding programs are available in most states, and each state is going to be slightly different in what it offers members. In general, these plans include deductibles and copays for medical services.

A common plan structure may look like this:

  • Deductible: $2,000 for individual, $4,000 for family
  • Out-Of-Network Deductible: $4,000 individual, $8,000 family
  • Coinsurance/copays: 50 percent if out of network

All Savers plans cover behavioral health services. This includes addiction treatment. If an individual is struggling with addiction and carries All Savers insurance, coverage is in place to help make treatment more affordable.

Does All Savers Cover Drug And Alcohol Detox?

Yes, All Savers insurance plans cover drug and alcohol detox programs under their behavioral health coverage. Before the insurance will take effect, the individual will need to meet any required deductibles.

Detox for drug and alcohol addiction is an important step toward breaking an addiction. This is the process that helps the individual remove the addictive substances from the body. It often comes with intense withdrawal symptoms as the drugs or alcohol leave the body. Because of the intensity of withdrawal symptoms, many individuals do best in a closely supervised medical environment during detox.

Does All Savers Cover Inpatient Rehab?

Under All Savers mental and behavioral health coverage, inpatient treatments are covered. On many plans, both the physician and the facility’s costs are fully covered after reaching the deductible, unless the member travels out of network. In that case, the member is responsible for a 50 percent coinsurance payment.

In order to use this benefit for a residential addiction treatment program, patients must get prior authorization from All Savers. Without prior authorization, the member may see benefits reduced by as much as 50 percent.

Inpatient treatment is typically the second step after detox, and may take place at the same facility or at an addiction treatment center. During residential addiction treatment, the patient lives at the facility and receives therapy and support in a group setting. This supportive environment helps establish sober living habits before the patient reenters normal life.

Does All Savers Cover Outpatient Rehab?

All Savers offers similar coverage for outpatient services as it does for inpatient treatment. Outpatient addiction treatment is fully covered, both facility and provider fees, for in-network treatment. Out-of-network outpatient rehab is subject to a 50 percent coinsurance fee.

Like inpatient treatment, outpatient drug and alcohol treatment requires prior authorization. Members can contact All Savers to get this authorization. Failure to do so will result in reductions of payments of up to 50 percent of the cost of treatment.

Outpatient treatment works well for those who have mild addictions or who have had more time in recovery. It uses the same therapy and counseling as an inpatient treatment program, while giving the patient freedom to live at home. Sometimes patients move from inpatient to outpatient treatment, and sometimes they simply attend outpatient without a preceding inpatient program.

Does All Savers Cover Medication-Assisted Treatment?

If a treatment facility or medical provider thinks medication can assist a patient’s addiction treatment plan, All Savers may cover it. Each insurance policy has its own prescription drug coverage plan. Some plans even cover the full cost of all prescription drug tiers after deductibles have been met.

Medication-assisted treatment provides the option to use prescription drugs to reduce the effects of withdrawal or make an addictive substance less appealing to an individual. Drugs like ReVia (naltrexone) and Suboxone (buprenorphine, naloxone) are often used to improve treatment outcomes and reduce the chances of an individual falling into relapse.

Does All Savers Cover Sober Living Houses?

Sober living homes may not be covered under All Savers insurance plans. Since these are not considered a medically necessary part of addiction treatment, they may not be covered.

A sober living house is an environment where an individual can live in a drug- and alcohol-free home with others who are working their way through recovery. The sober living house does not usually provide treatment, but it does offer a safe environment for the individual while they are learning to live life without drugs and alcohol.

In-Network Vs. Out-Of-Network Coverage

All Savers encourages members to use in-network providers. Out-of-network providers are allowed, but members will owe almost double the amount of out-of-pocket costs if they choose to use providers outside of the network.

What happens when a member wants to go out-of-network? Addiction treatment centers can perform a verification of benefits to determine what is covered and how much the patient’s out-of-pocket costs would be.

Members can also contact All Savers directly to verify coverage for a particular facility. The insurance provider will help them determine whether a facility’s services are covered. All Savers members can access the UnitedHealthcare ChoicePlus, Choice, Core and Core Essential networks, which puts a lot of providers at their fingertips.
